La Nature Des Choses

Conversation with Nature by Singapore Designers

Year

2022

Completed at

Design Incubation Centre
“The Nature of Things” exhibition is an augmented version of La Nature des Choses, which made its way to Singapore’s shores after being showcased during Paris Design Week 2022 (in collaboration with The Maison Deyrolle), and, with another edition during Bangkok Design Week 2024 (in collaboration with Greydient Lab, sponsored by DesignSingapore Council).

First exhibited at Deyrolle, a world famous reference for natural sciences and education, specialising in entomology and taxidermy. Being a vocation for beauties of nature, art and educational materials, Deyrolle was the perfect venue for “La Nature Des Choses” exhibition to be.

The exhibition harmonised effortlessly with the cabinet of curiosities at Deyrolle. Having the 11 projects that introduced dialogues around specific species from the tropical Singapore, the unique environment allowed visitors to emerge deeper into the topics and questions around our relationship with nature.

Natural geometric shapes of flora and fauna

Augmented by various incubation and research projects led by the Design Incubation Centre, the curated projects on display are diverse in their form and function, from the subtle to the striking. The key visual is inspired from that, while also acknowledging natural motifs that can often be found in our natural habitat. Illustrations of each projects are created with repetitive simple shapes, revealing unexpected patterns.
